Grenada is comprised of three islands, Grenada itself plus Carriacou and Petite Martinique. French settlers displaced the Carib Indians in the 1650s. In 1762 Grenada became a British territory. In 1974 Grenada became independent, but in 1983 the USA and other Caribbean countries invaded to restore democracy. Despite the difficulties, Grenada is still famous for forests of fragrant cinnamon, allspice, cocoa and nutmeg. On Grenada and Carriacou scuba divers enjoy spectacular walls, wrecks, and the ability to view sharks, turtles, lobsters and giant moray eels within a soft coral forests and reefs. On Grenada, history buffs can visit 18th century era Fort George and Fort Frederick or lie on the 2-mile Grand Anse beach. North of St. George's, you will find Grenada's agricultural area including some historic plantations and factories. Grenada hotels and Grenada resorts are listed and will help you plan your vacation.
