Barbados became independent from the UK in 1966 and has enjoyed a stable political system since then. Most Bajans are descended from African slaves brought to work on the sugar plantations. Today there is much for the traveller to do: Shop on Broad Street in Bridgetown. Visit Sunbury Plantation House (circa 1660), St. Nicholas Abbey and the Francia Plantation. Tour Harrison's Cave with its stalactites, stalagmites, and waterfalls. Walk around Andromeda Gardens. Take in a round of golf. Popular sporting events include cricket, tennis and polo. Barbados hotels and Barbados resorts are listed and will help you plan your vacation. Image courtesy of Barbados Tourism Authority - UK. |
